How to tell if you are being cheated on : Look out for these signs

This generation inherited infidelity from our forefathers. We have now glamorized being the side piece and we pity the main course who is living under false assumptions. I had the distinct pleasure of speaking to a wise man. He told me that in order to discover whether you are being cheated on,take the following steps :

1.Go to sleep early ,then wake up at midnight to check if your partner is sleeping next to you or sneaking phone calls to another lover.

2. If you live together, purposely forget your keys at home, that way, your partner has to open the door for you. You can catch them off guard at this juncture.

3. Drop by their residence (if you do not live together ) unexpectedly, and carry a token of love for them, such as flowers or a meal. Ask to go inside the house and have a refreshment.Observe the surroundings carefully.

4. Pay attention to changes in their daily routine, such as prolonged time spent at the gym or unexpected trips to the grocery that turn into a 2 hour road trip.

5.Keep your nose open to new fragrances or body odors.Everyone has a distinct smell and when persons are romantically involved, their odors combine and may change.

6. Changes in sexual desires or requests . Your partner may be trying to be more adventurous or simply chasing a sexual dragon on a quest for pleasure. A new lover may have exposed them to different intimate positions and they may want to try it with you.

7. Use of new slangs,or terms-we emulate the same speech patterns as those we constantly interact with,so your partner may be repeating new words that they heard from their lover.

This may seem like a fishing expedition, but it is worth the effort to determine if your time is being wasted. The biggest step after discovering that your partner is in fact cheating,is to be willing to walk away. Indeed, you will miss your lover, but then ask yourself what exactly do you miss about them. Do an audit of the time that you two spent together. Did you give more than you received? Were you the only one inconvenienced by your meeting times or were they mutually convenient ? The end goal is to find out if you were being used. Then you have to remember your worth and walk away. If you choose to stay with your lover after you learn that they are cheating on you, then you are solely responsible for any future unhappiness. The cheating spouse may seek to exercise control over you psychologically. They may be under the impression that you cannot function without them and they will continue to hurt you.

Not everyone can run a Bar : Special skills are required for certain types of businesses

How much of human life is lost in waiting? Do not wait until the timing is perfect. Proceed with your plans . Time waits on no one . Plan and execute. You have to state your intentions to the world and put it out in the universe. It will come back to you. The elements will line themselves up. Everything will fall into place. Start today, baby steps .Do not wait until the time is right. Do not wait for conditions to be favourable, just proceed and they will follow your lead. You have to guide the way ,you will become weary in waiting . Plan ,execute and repeat . Write your plans down for your records and tell your friends about it to remain accountable . Press on.

Remember your training, follow the protocol then be emotional for a brief moment

Training has a major impact on our minds . A young man who was trained in the army will never be the same again. A student who receives training at Law School will analyze everything. Apart from preparing us for a career, training will impact the way that we interact with others. I saw the new Kingsman movie with my best friend and after Eggsy’s home was destroyed he became flustered. Merlin appeared and warned him to “…Remember his training, follow the doomsday protocol ,and then be emotional for a brief moment”. There was so much wisdom in that statement. It is easy to feel overwhelmed when we are faced with difficult times. We can let our emotions rule us, and not ‘feel’ to go to work. Everyone can see that we are upset or sad and this is where emotional intelligence skills are displayed. In this age of ‘unsocial media’ we may post a status or a video that we may soon regret. We have to remember our training. After that, there should be certain steps to take in the event of disappointment. This may include ‘plan B’ or it may include leaving an abusive relationship and returning to your family home. For a fleeting moment, shed a tear. Express your frustrations in a private corner and leave them there. Do not nurse the wounds from a past lover, do not nurture the hate. To do otherwise, is to plant the seeds of bitterness and resentment. This makes life appear grim and unbearable.

Knock, Knock, knocking on Opportunity’s door…the importance of actively pursuing your dreams

The race is not for the swift but for those who can endure. You cannot catch fish, if you do not lower the rod in the water. You can stay in the boat as long as you want, the fish will not jump into your plate. Now is the time to get up, get out and get something done in your life. Stop blaming others for the outcome of your decisions, this is your life. I am the proud guardian of 3 kittens. I have one special kitten, he has developed a system of getting my attention. The kitten has a great sense of time, he knows my bed time, he knows my departure time for work and he knows when I will return. If I leave the house and he did not anticipate that ,he sits on a pile of bricks to get a better vantage point to see my safe return. He sits outside my door on a blue mat that I bought for him. If he does not see me, he sits outside the window , where he can hear the sound of a television or music. He climbs on the rooftop to get my attention and purrs. He is always ready for the sound of the cracking of the door, when I am about to feed him. He always eats first because he is always ready for the opportunity to get my attention first. His brother and sister always eat his leftovers.

This kitten is brilliant. Instead of knocking on the door, he sleeps outside my door. He knows that I have to leave the house at some point. He makes himself comfortable on my step and he waits. How many times in life do we knock on a closed door? When we get no response, we walk away in frustration. This kitten has developed a clever system of getting what he wants. We must do the same, if we want a promotion at our job, we must actively learn what is required for the new position. Go and learn new courses, take up a new language, volunteer on the weekends to gain experience. Do not complain and take no action. If you want a boyfriend or girlfriend, become your own friend first. Discover yourself, question why you drink excessive alcohol, find out your triggers. Improve yourself, when the time is right and a partner approaches you, he or she will complement your life, not complete it.  Patience is required to wait for the opportunity to arrive, but while you wait ,you will be busy. Brother Buju Banton said that “opportunity is a scarce commodity” so you have to be prepared when it comes. The universe rewards effort. All the time and sweat that you spend perfecting your craft will return onto you seven fold. As you grow and mature, you will network and someone may open that door that you have been knocking on and invite you inside. You may be asked to provide the password to enter, this password may be a certain skill, or a different language or a certificate that you never bothered to pursue.

This is your life, so make  your bed outside the door that opens the way to the opportunity that you seek and improve yourself , while waiting for the door to open. If you become weary, sit by the window, climb on the rooftop, get the attention of the person who has to open the door for you.

Success does not change you, fame does..a tribute to Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston and Selena Quintanilla-Perez

Dear Amy Winehouse , happy birthday. Return If Possible (Whitney Houston and Selena Quintanilla-Perez). May these musical legends rest cozy in Mother Nature. I adore all of these performers. They opened themselves up to us and shared their emotions with the world.

Whitney Houston

I stumbled upon another documentary with Whitney Houston and she stated that it became increasingly difficult for her to go outdoors as her popularity increased. She indicated that she was bombarded by fans requesting autographs and or photos. She lamented that success did not change her but her growing fame restricted her ability to go out. In my respectful view, although she appeared cheerful in some of the footage (recorded while on tour) there seemed to be in sweet pain. In order to effectively perform her classics , she had to identify with heartache and loneliness, possibly experience it. It was revealed that she had low self esteem and this was reinforced in her tumultuous marriage. She spent days away from her infant daughter while on tour , she practiced with her band non stop and she was now a public figure. She found comfort in her vice, she started consuming then she was consumed. Fame is a hell of a drug.

Amy Winehouse

Today is her birthday and I know she is smiling. In the darkness, she knew herself. She sang with soul and her beauty was raw. Her album “Back to Black” was the soundtrack of my life in 2008. Her performances were entertaining and she poured herself into her music. She loved love, but love hated her. She was peacefully bitter and the lyrics of her song reflected her tortured love life. Yet she continued singing, she indulged in love with her  lover but that love turned into something painful to witness. Her success was accompanied by  haunting fame that elevated her to a public figure. Her love use became the subject of articles and she was stalked by paparazzi. It was not the success that changed her, because she always suffered from an eating disorder, it was the love that fame brought. Love is a hell of a drug.

Selena Quintanilla-Perez

My dear Selena, there is none like unto thee. Your strong sense of fashion, your strong command of your vocal cords, and the way you moved your body makes this generation miss you. You lived , you loved and you infected everyone around you. You trusted those around you and your fame attracted psycopaths. These forces were responsible for your tragic  demise because you trusted people . Trust is a hell of a drug.

Rest cozy ladies.

TREAT EVERYONE WITH RESPECT

I love doubles. For my international readers, “doubles” is a common street food in Trinidad and Tobago. It consists of  two baras (flat fried bread) filled with curry channa (curried chick peas). Extra condiments can be added for taste as well as sauces. My favourite doubles vendor sells in Curepe and I visit weekly to indulge in the delicacy. I enjoy eating the doubles standing and I usually make conversation wit the other people eating. I was devouring my third doubles and I could not get enough. I noticed a man who appeared to be homeless approaching the doubles vendor. He wore trousers without a shirt and he had no shoes. He said “Jared…Jared”, the doubles vendor who was collecting cash said “Yes. Mr Williams”. At this time I was considering buying another doubles, then Jared told the homeless man to stand to the right with the other customers who were eating doubles standing and he will be served. The homeless man complied and received his doubles. He stood there and ate his doubles, he watched me and I watched him. I was quietly impressed with the turn of events. I am used to seeing food vendors chase away homeless persons from their establishments. This time, the doubles vendors were indifferent to the financial standing of the homeless man.

Imagine a world where we respected everyone regardless of their race, sexuality or political affiliations. Imagine a world where we treated homeless persons with dignity and  kindly refused when they asked us for money. Instead we curse them and advise them to get jobs when they ask for donations. The doubles vendors displayed great professionalism in referring to the homeless man by his name, and then serving him in the same line as everyone else. There was no unequal treatment, no discrimination and I am sure the homeless man was able to hold on to his dignity.

Do not blow up too quickly: Enjoy the entrepreneurial ride

Do not expand to quickly, you may implode. I was contacted by a representative of a local telecommunications service  provider. He tried to convince me to advertise in  the local telephone directory. That way ,he said, I would attract new prospects. At the time I was discussing this proposition with a brilliant business professional. She asked me what I would do with all those incoming calls . She said that I may be overwhelmed and I agreed. The telephone directory also has an online version, the result is double exposure. I carefully considered the advice and I told the representative that I may contact him in the next 5 years.

I have been binge watching comedy series from the 80’s and 90’s. While watching an episode of “Sister,Sister” Lisa started a business, she made dresses and offered them for sale. Her first customer bought a dress and Lisa felt invincible. She started planning to attract new customers. She called the media houses and asked for quotations to place advertisements. She was advised by Ray that she should take it slowly and not expand too quickly. Lisa placed the advertisement and the same client came knocking on her door.Ray answered the door and gave the first customer a full cash refund and accepted the dress that she wanted to return. He hid the dress that was returned in order to protect Lisa’s feelings. Lisa was upset when she discovered the truth but she was determined to bring her dream to pass. She realised that she needed to conduct the business on a small scale then ,eventually she would expand.

I recalled a conversation with one of my clients , he indicated that equipment should not be purchased unless a contract was secured. He said that a business must be gradually expanded , creep then walk.

I want to appeal to you ,although you may be ambitious, life will knock your socks off. Be patient, trust the process. Do not take loans to acquire equipment if it seems that work is not forthcoming. The equipment has a minimum of 6 months warranty. In the event that you do not get any clients, you will not have cause to use the equipment and detect any flaws. The warranty may expire before you get a client. You will then have to pay to repair or replace the equipment. Should you decide to sell the equipment, you will lose money because of depreciation.

Remember success is 1% inspiration and 99% persistence , so please learn as much as you can, acquire contracts then expand,in that order.

How to Register a Limited Liability Company in Trinidad and Tobago ?Trinidad Inline Lawyer

Registering your limited liability company with the Companies Registrar has many benefits. Once you obtain the Certificate of Registration, a bank account can be opened in respect of the company and the company can enter into contracts.

There are three steps to incorporate a limited liability company in Trinidad and Tobago namely:

  1. Name Search and Reservation
  2. Incorporation documents
  3. By-Laws

Call/WhatsApp Sydney 868 373-1166

These will now be discussed in turn.

  1. Name Search and Reservation

This form has to be submitted to Registrar of Companies along with the necessary filing fee. The desired name for the company as well as two (2) alternative names must be included in the form. These alternative names will be considered in the event that the desired company name has already been registered or reserved. Once the name is reserved, the applicant has 28 days to complete the registration process. The applicant has to sign at the bottom of the Name Search form, an incorporator (attorney at law, accountant or specialized incorporator) can sign for and on behalf of the applicant. In the event that the proposed name and the two alternatives are rejected by the Registrar, a new name search must be filed. The Registrar may reject a company name for the following reasons :

(i) names prohibited by the Companies Act;

(ii) names similar to those already registered or;

(iii) a combination of general words that lack distinction or

(iv) names that are misleading to the public.

It is wise to be specific in stating the type of services that will be offered by your company. The Registrar can request that the applicant clarify any difficulties with the proposed name by putting a query on your application. At that point, the applicant will then satisfy the Registrar’s request by writing a letter explaining why the particular name was chosen. After filing the Name Search in the appropriate form, the applicant has to return to the office of the Companies Registrar in five to seven working days to collect the response. The date for the applicant to return will be stamped on the receipt collected after the fees are paid to the cashier. If the company name is approved, the applicant can move on to the second step, that is the incorporation documents.

SEE WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT US :

  1. Incorporation documents

The four incorporation documents must be completed in duplicate and filed by the applicant along with the necessary filing fees. Be sure to keep the name approval safely and to submit same with the incorporation documents. The incorporation documents are:

(a) Articles of Incorporation;

(b) Notice of Directors;

(c) Notice of address of Registered Office

(d) Notice of Secretary(ies)

With respect to the Articles of Incorporation , the approved name of the company must be inserted. The applicant must state whether the company will be a private or public company.  The type of liability of the members must also be included whether limited or unlimited. The number of directors must be stated, by law a minimum of 2 directors are needed, a maximum of 10 directors are allowed. The name ,occupation, address and signature of the incorporator has to be included in the Articles of Incorporation. The applicant (one of the directors) also has to sign both copies of the form.

The Notice of Directors must also be completed and filed.  This form provides the names, occupation and addresses of all of the directors. It is reiterated that there must be a minimum of 2 directors and a maximum of 10 directors.

The Notice of Address of Registered Office sets out the registered address of the company. All official company documents and files must be kept here. Generally, the applicant can use his residence as the registered office, however if the applicant is seeking to open a company bank account, one bank in particular will request to see the premises to ensure that it has an office conducive to operating a business.

Call/WhatsApp Sydney 868 373-1166

The Notice of Secretaries is usually filed as part and parcel of the incorporating documents. The Board of Directors will usually appoint the Corporate Secretary, a director can also act as a Corporate Secretary. The Corporate Secretary will ensure that the company complies with statutory requirements as well as ensuring that the annual returns are filed on time. Caution should be exercised in selecting a Corporate Secretary since this person can sign the documents to dissolve the company.

Once these incorporation documents are prepared and signed, an officer at the Companies Registry will review it briefly and then direct the applicant to the cashier. The applicant will pay the relevant fees and the cashier will prepare a receipt and stamp the date for the Certificate to be collected. Usually five to seven working days, may be longer. If there are further queries by the Registrar, these will have to be satisfied.  Once the applicant returns on the stamped date, and the Certificate is produced it can be collected.

3.By-Laws

The date stated on the Certificate of Incorporation will be deemed the date of incorporation of the company. This is relevant to the entering of contracts by the company and the opening of company accounts.  The next step after the issue of the Certificate is the development of By Laws to conduct the affairs of the company. This document is not filed at the Companies Registry, particularly for companies for profit. The By Laws will be kept at the registered office of the company.

Please be guided that Annual Returns have be filed at the Companies Registry yearly. The company must also  acquire a Board of Inland Revenue number, register for VAT where applicable, and other statutory taxes. The company may also have to be registered with the Financial Intelligence Unit if it is considered a Listed Business as per FIU Regulations.

The Cure for the Disease of Poverty: Multiple Streams of Income

You have to declare that you will never be poor another day in your life. Believe that you are destined for greatness and your subconscious mind will accept this and oblige. Unless you decide to break free, poverty will pass from generation to generation. It has been likened to a disease that consumes the victim. Poverty has a smell, it is depressing. I reiterate from a previous post, that another failure of the education system is the lack of courses on financial literacy. We, the youth, do not understand mortgages, taxes, or the laws of money. We are not taught how to rise out of poverty and to accomplish what others dream about.

There are different definitions of poverty according to the Sociologists. For the purpose of this post, poverty refers to the inability to be financially free. By this, I mean you are barely making ends meet, you do not have any savings or investments, and you do not have any assets. You have dreams and aspirations but you cannot finance them and you are mad at the world. Conquering poverty requires hard work and dedication. The results are not apparent in the immediate future. Others may see you struggling to come out of poverty and dissuade you from even trying. I beg you, ignore them, misery and by extension poverty likes company.

If you subscribe to fairy tales, and books about imaginary, magical, mystical characters, then you will see wisdom from Solomon when he wrote the book of Ecclesiastes in the latter part of his life. In the Book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 11 verses 1- 2, Solomon advised: “Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. Divide your portion to seven, or to even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth”. Here, we see our superhero, the wise King Solomon giving us financial advice that is applicable in the economic situation that is plaguing Trinidad and Tobago. In verse 1, he seemed to be suggesting that we should toil in our youth, so that we can reap the rewards when we get older. Solomon admonished on verse 2 that we have at least seven (7) or eight (8) side hustles because we did not know what the future holds. It is not difficult to fathom why surviving on the income from one job is proving to be a Herculean task.

How to develop multiple streams of income

  1. Use your time wisely and discover our personal strengths and weaknesses.
  2. Monetize your hobbies and passions, if you are good at baking cakes, charge a small fee to make your cakes. Your true friends and supporters will patronize. Long gone are the days where we can incur costs and let others indulge freely. I dislike favours, I much prefer transactions.
  3. Get a job, full time or part time. A dollar is still a dollar. It matters not that others tease you because of where you work. I worked at a gas station full time for three (3) years while attending university. I mainly worked the night shifts (10 pm to 6 am) and all the weekend shifts and holidays. Those who laughed at me are now working at that gas station. You will learn valuable lessons about money, business, management and people when you are working for someone else. There are many university graduates who are unemployed with high expectations for a dream job. Life may disappoint you, my friend. You may have to accept a job and a salary that you believe to be incommensurate with your qualifications.
  4. Tutor– You can tutor students on a part time basis to earn extra income. There is a lot of competition, so you must be creative. I have been tutoring since 2009 and it is my favourite job.
  5. You can offer an editing/ proofreading service to students– this may be a good option if you also tutor CXC English.
  6. You can offer to cut the lawns in your neighborhood for a reasonable fee.
  7. You can wash cars– Be creative and offer an exclusive service to executives or taxi drivers or maxi taxis.
  8. Learn a trade– You can start your own business after you learn a trade such plumbing, electrical installation or tiling.

There are endless opportunities to make money in Trinidad and Tobago. Our brothers and sisters come from the surrounding islands, start companies in Trinidad and are buying properties. We live here, and foolishly criticize our brothers and sisters who work hard to provide a better life for their families. Please allow me to reference the employees who were sent home this year by both private and public organizations. Those who thought they had permanent jobs and are now unemployed, there is still hope. The trick is to have multiple sources of income. In the event that you lose your job, you already have another source of income, and now you have the time to develop more.

The successful people that I know are always diversifying their streams of income. They work as though it’s their first day on the job. They work for at least twelve hours (12) per day. They hardly decline an opportunity to make an extra dollar. They are likely to have more than one company, and they offer various services. Whereas the unsuccessful people that I know rely solely on their job for as a source income. They complain that they need to make more money, but they are taking no action to increase their value. They do not want to exit the comfort zone, they go home and watch television or use social media after working an eight hour shift. It has been said that what you do between 4 pm and 8 pm may determine your future. Those who work on their side hustles after 4 pm or study for their exams in this time period will most likely succeed. Thank you for permitting  me to belabour the point that by having multiple streams of income and by working diligently, you will never be poor another day in your life.
