Reminder: Annual Returns are due

Do not forget to remember to file your annual returns. I understand that running your company is a huge responsibility. You have deadlines, pressing matters, impatient clients. Your annual returns are due on the anniversary of incorporating the company. You will see the date of incorporation on the Certificate of Incorporation.

There is a time period of 30 days after the anniversary date also called a “grace period”. After this 30 day period elapses, a penalty of $300.00 per month will be incurred. This debt must be satisfied in full before any further Annual Returns can be filed.

The Ministry of Legal Affairs offers a service in Trinidad and Tobago, whereby a director and or corporate secretary will receive an email or SMS text message indicating that the Annual Returns are now due.

Kindly peruse the website of the Ministry of Legal Affairs in Trinidad and Tobago and look for the section with “SMS and Email Sign Up“.

What do you see when you look in the mirror

Mr Brewster held a piece of wood in his hand and asked the Young Slade what did he see ? Young Mr. Scrooge said that he saw a stick . Mr Brewster told him that if that was all saw he was dumber than he looked . Mr Brewster said it can be anything that you want to be , a “magician’s stick” or a “whip to tame wild animals “.

When you look in the mirror what do you see ? Are you burdened by your current difficulties or are you hopeful that you will improve . Do you see yourself as the person that you can be in 10 years ? You can be anything that you decide . Put in the hours , put in the work . Sacrifice then your victory will come . Your own imagination will make it happen , JUST BELIEVE.

Stranger Danger :Do parents still warn kids to stay away from strangers?

“Stranger Danger,Stranger Danger” I repeated to my 5 year old neighbor. She had no idea what I was talking about . Her mother told her that she was going to the shop,3 hours passed she the little kid was becoming worried. She asked me if I was going to the shop , if yes , she wanted me to look for her mother .

The child saw a man passing and ran to her gate , she said “Excuse me,excuse me,are you going to the shop ? If you see my mommy, tell her to come home please!!” I ran out of my house to warn her about the dangers of doing this . When I saw her she was in a vest and she was not wearing her shorts . I became enraged because I could foresee the dangers in calling out to stranger . At the time she was being supervised by her 17 year old sister. I warned her sister that this was incredibly dangerous.

Parents , please remember to warn your kids about the current occurrences of missing children . There must be a way for us to have these conversations with kids . Long gone are the days of avoiding difficult discussions with children.

She is living her dream , she is making her own money ,turning her own key . She wins sometimes, other times, she loses. She does the handy work around her house ,she cooks because she likes it ,not because she has to . She is faithful to herself ,she does not tolerate disrespect or abuse from her partner . Your Brain is a Creative Computer

The memes have led me to revisit episodes of “Dexter’s Laboratory”. This no doubt was one of my favorite cartoons from the 90s  There was an episode where Dexter entered a competition in hopes of winning a surprise prize.

The host of the competition sang many songs, but one stayed with me. The chorus of the song was “Your brain is a creative Computer “. The lyrics were basically that a thought was the seed for all inventions. Further , the true creative power of the brain was harnessed , the universe will be ours .

Wisdom finds you in the most unexpected ways. Are you using the full potential of your mind? Are you ??? Anything is possible !!!!!!! Use your mind to create the future that you want for yourself.

What kind of work will you be doing in 10 years ?

My 5 year old neighbor asked me if I had to work today,I told her that it was a Saturday and I did not have to go to the office. She then asked me to describe my tasks during the day.I told her that I sat at a desk, used a computer, made presentations. I told her that there were no toys or snacks or nap time. She said she did not like the sound of the office.

I then asked her what type of work she would like to do when she grew up. She told me that she wanted to work in a company selling fried chicken, she called the same name of the place where her mother worked. She was not sure what she wanted to do specifically . She added that she would work and go to school. I asked her to explain, she indicated that by going to school , she would get a better job.

I was shocked. So I engaged her further . I asked her what she would do with the money that she earned from her job . She plainly said “pay bills”. I was mortified. At 5 years old she captured the dilemma of the current struggle. I analyzed her household , her mother worked at the fried chicken company, her grandmother worked at a security firm. Her 17 year old sister graduated from high school and she was at home . I know that it was only a matter of time before she started working on a plantation.

Strange times indeed. I told the 5 year old that she could own the building that housed the friend chicken company, I reminded her that she was smart and could be anything that she wanted to do . She smiled. I extend the same courtesy to you , you were meant for so much more than a job to pay bills . You can rule your destiny.

Go Forth and Meet your Destiny

You have to find your success. What are you passionate about ? Structure your passion with your profession. You will never work another day in your life. Money will follow. It may be hard in the early stages, but despise not the day of small beginnings. Keep your head up. The time has expired for waiting for someone else to make your dreams come true. This is your life. All failures and success in your life thus far are attributable solely to you. Find out what your strengths are. Work on your weaknesses. Become the best version of you possible. Things will fall in place. If you are single, at this time, enjoy it. Use the time to develop your skills. Get a hobby, work on a project, keep your hands busy. Ten years from now, you will laugh at the things that you endured.

Always remember that there is a younger person looking at you. You may be a role model for someone. It may  be your son, or sister or a neighbor. There will also be negative people awaiting your demise. Be determined to prove them wrong. Hold the vision, go forth and meet your destiny.

How to deal with angry customers who insult you? A message to all those employed in the service industry and hospitality industry

I am well on my way to reading one book every week  pursuant to my new year’s resolution. This week, I am exploring “The magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz. In one chapter he narrates a  story of an irate guest at a hotel who sent a telegram to reserve a room for a single occupant but who came to the hotel clerk requesting  hotel room with double occupancy. The customer insulted the clerk threatening to have him fired and questioned his intelligence. The young clerk apologized but declared that he was merely following instructions.

The author was next in line to deal with the clerk but was pleasantly surprised when the clerk greeted him warmly. The author told the clerk that he admired the way that he dealt with the previous customer. The clerk stated that he refused to be infuriated by a customer like that, he empathised with the man and supposed that he was having marital problems and that the man used him as a scapegoat to feel superior. The clerk added that “…underneath he is  probably a nice guy, most folks are…”

The author then suggested that we remember this statement the next time someone “declares war on us. He said the best way to deal with situations like this is to let the other person say their piece, then forget about it”.

We have nothing to lose by following this approach. Instead of responding to their insults , especially for those of us who work in the service industry, it is wise to hold our tongue. There is nothing to gain by charging with bitter words. The other person may in fact be experiencing some trying times and may simply want attention. Although you may find that your minimum wage does not pay you enough to take insults, I am sure by the following week that you will forget the exchange of words.
