Business Idea No. 1: Coconut Water Business

Do you like coconut water? In the Caribbean islands, coconut water is a refreshing , healthy drink that can be purchased from vendors. These vendors usually sell from trucks,parked near public recreational spots. Apart from this, coconut water can be purchased in a store in a bottle. Some vendors have franchises and sell at different locations, they even operate on a shift system. The coconuts are purchased wholesale or are picked from coconut fields owned by the vendors.

I heard a rumor that some person raid fields that do not belong to them and then sell the coconuts wholesale. There is a jelly inside of the coconuts, that many people enjoy. Coconut water has great health benefits and so , many persons consume it for this reason.

This is a great idea if you have a connection to purchase the coconuts.

What do you see when you look in the mirror

Mr Brewster held a piece of wood in his hand and asked the Young Slade what did he see ? Young Mr. Scrooge said that he saw a stick . Mr Brewster told him that if that was all saw he was dumber than he looked . Mr Brewster said it can be anything that you want to be , a “magician’s stick” or a “whip to tame wild animals “.

When you look in the mirror what do you see ? Are you burdened by your current difficulties or are you hopeful that you will improve . Do you see yourself as the person that you can be in 10 years ? You can be anything that you decide . Put in the hours , put in the work . Sacrifice then your victory will come . Your own imagination will make it happen , JUST BELIEVE.

What kind of work will you be doing in 10 years ?

My 5 year old neighbor asked me if I had to work today,I told her that it was a Saturday and I did not have to go to the office. She then asked me to describe my tasks during the day.I told her that I sat at a desk,used a computer,made presentations. I told her that there were no toys or snacks or nap time. She said she did not like the sound of the office.

I then asked her what type of work she would like to do when she grew up. She told me that she wanted to work in a company selling fried chicken,she called the same name of the place where her mother worked. She was not sure what she wanted to do specifically . She added that she would work and go to school. I asked her to explain,she indicated that by going to school , she would get a better job.

I was shocked. So I engaged her further . I asked her what she would do with the money that she earned from her job . She plainly said “pay bills”. I was mortified. At 5 years old she captured the dilemma of the current struggle. I analyzed her household , her mother worked at the fried chicken company,her grandmother worked at a security firm. Her 17 year old sister graduated from high school and she was at home . I know that it was only a matter of time before she started working on a plantation.

Strange times indeed. I told the 5 year old that she could own the building that housed the friend chicken company, I reminded her that she was smart and could be anything that she wanted to do . She smiled. I extend the same courtesy to you , you were meant for so much more than a job to pay bills . You can rule your destiny.

Take the little you have and make it work

Start where you are with what you have. Despise not the day of small beginnings. Use the little salary that you currently have to fund your dream.Dreams are expensive. Every month put aside cash to invest in your business.
Learn to cut costs,such as rent ,cell phone bills. Perform a monthly audit to see where your money goes.Then look at ways to spend less. Once the item is in good working condition do not afraid to buy it used. Try not to make excuses as to why you are not living your dreams. You cannot learn business by reading books or watching videos . You must actually start the business. Promote your business and reinvest profits in your own business.

Misery Loves Company, Know when to Excuse Yourself from the Company of Others

You will eventually learn to decline invitations to pity parties. Sometimes I listen to the plight of my colleagues. I actively listen and do not offer advice unless requested. My suggestions are oftentimes met with additional problems that results in a vicious cycle. I now excuse myself from toxic situations. We are all going through family issues, emotional issues and drama at our workplace. After a day at work, it is overwhelming to deal with the problems of friends. They do not seem to realize that it is further taxing on your already exhausted emotions. I have found that it helps to disconnect. You can remain available for one hour to communicate with others via social media, then take off your phone and recharge your emotions.

You will be of no use to yourself if you are spent all the time. Your performance at work may decline and you may even lose weight. Safe guard your emotions from vampires. They will drain you of your energy. Worst part is in your time of need, they are nowhere to be found. you have to know when to say good night and go home.

Go Forth and Meet your Destiny

You have to find your success. What are you passionate about ? Structure your passion with your profession. You will never work another day in your life. Money will follow. It may be hard in the early stages, but despise not the day of small beginnings. Keep your head up. The time has expired for waiting for someone else to make your dreams come true. This is your life. All failures and success in your life thus far are attributable solely to you. Find out what your strengths are. Work on your weaknesses. Become the best version of you possible. Things will fall in place. If you are single, at this time, enjoy it. Use the time to develop your skills. Get a hobby, work on a project, keep your hands busy. Ten years from now, you will laugh at the things that you endured.

Always remember that there is a younger person looking at you. You may be a role model for someone. It may  be your son, or sister or a neighbor. There will also be negative people awaiting your demise. Be determined to prove them wrong. Hold the vision, go forth and meet your destiny.

Employee Engagement: How to Maximize Productivity and make your Employees Want to Work?

What is employee engagement?
Employee engagement is based on trust, integrity, two way commitment and communication between an organisation and its staff. It is an approach that increases the chances of business success, contributing to organisational and individual performance, productivity and well-being1.
Employee Engagement from the perspective of the employees2

Imagine if an employee can wake up and be excited about going to work. Imagine if he looks forward to sharing great ideas, to working together with colleagues and accomplishing a common goal. That employee would feel as though they are a part of the organisation making a vital contribution to achieving the company’s mission.
Employee engagement is about being included fully as a member of the team, focusing on clear goals, trusted and empowered, receiving regular and constructive feedback, supported in developing new skills, thanked and recognised for achievement.
A work environment that is fair, based on mutual respect is an engaged organisation.

Employee engagement from the perspective of the Employer 3
Employee engagement is about positive attitudes and behaviours leading to improved business outcomes, in a way that they trigger and reinforce one another. Imagine an organisation that runs on employees’ knowledge and ideas to improve products and services and to promote innovation. Imagine a place where your employees can recommend the organisation to prospective employees and boast that the actions of the employer are in line with the values of the company.

Methods of Employee Engagement
Have a tea lady who walks around offering beverages, she can then return to the refrigerator and bring it;
Give employees flexi-time-whereby they can work from home on two or more days per week, for accountability they will log in and log out;
Have a snack or fruit bar full of fruits and snacks for employees to indulge in;
Ask employees about their goals and aspirations and advise them generally on how to move forward;
Show concern for employees who are experiencing difficulties when their spouse or sibling is sick i.e. compassion;
Give employees every other Friday off for personal business, the compromise is that staff will work an additional hour everyday or come in one hour early every morning.
Try to get all employees involved in activities this limits the feeling of alienation.
Employee engagement is about eliciting a deeper commitment from our employees thereby receiving fewer sick leave ,reduction in absenteeism, decreasing accident and incidents rates , limited conflicts and grievances ,and ultimately an increase in productivity 4.
